TeamHealth is seeking a full-time physician assistant or nurse practitioner to join our emergency department observation unit at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Washington. This is a unique opportunity to practice in a physician-led observation medicine service that is managed by EM physicians and cares for patients placed in hospital observation status directly from the emergency department. The observation unit serves as an extension of the ED, providing focused diagnostic evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and disposition planning for patients who require additional care but do not meet criteria for inpatient admission.<br><br><strong>Position Details</strong><br>The observation unit is staffed with 12 hours of daytime APC coverage and works closely with emergency physicians, consulting specialists, nursing staff, case management, and hospital leadership. APCs function as an integral part of the emergency medicine team while caring for a diverse patient population in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.<br><br>Observation patients include a broad range of medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, and trauma-related conditions. This role combines hands-on clinical practice with meaningful leadership, mentorship, and administrative experience while working closely with facility and regional leadership.<br><br>This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EM nurse practitioner or physician assistant who enjoys mentoring peers, collaborating on operations, and contributing to departmental decision-making, while continuing to practice clinically in a supportive, team-based environment.<br><br><strong>Position Profile</strong><ul><li>Hybrid freestanding emergency department and urgent care model</li><li>24/7 coverage with full diagnostic capabilities including lab, x-ray, and CT</li><li>High-acuity urgent care and emergency medicine FSED</li><li>Epic EMR</li><li>Collaborative physician and APC care model</li><li>Strong nursing and ancillary support</li></ul><br><strong>Lead APC Responsibilities</strong><ul><li>Provide high-quality emergency and urgent care clinical coverage at Bremerton and Port Orchard</li><li>Serve as a clinical and professional resource for NPs and PAs across both facilities</li><li>Help lead, mentor, and support APC team members in clinical practice and professional development</li><li>Assist with scheduling coordination and staffing collaboration</li><li>Work closely with facility medical directors and regional leadership on operational initiatives, quality improvement, and departmental decision-making</li><li>Participate in leadership discussions and support department goals and performance standards</li></ul><br><strong>Qualifications</strong><ul><li>Washington state licensure as a PA/NP</li><li>Minimum of two years of emergency medicine experience as an APC required</li><li>Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and leadership interest</li><li>Desire to grow in administrative and leadership responsibilities while maintaining clinical practice</li></ul><br><strong>Compensation</strong><br>Competitive compensation with an estimated base salary range of $100 to $100 per hour, with the opportunity to earn additional bonus compensation. We are averaging 38 hours pf physician coverage and 24 hours of APC coverage daily that oversees an annual volume of 40,000 visits per year with a 12% admit rate. Our dedicated team deals with a medium acuity level, while APCs see an average of 2.24 patients per hour. During all shifts our team responds to code blues and rose, but we are not part of the rapids team. Our APCs will cover the fast track that consists of vertical chairs and a triage bay.
